How to change the battery in a Starkey hearing aid
Replacing the battery in your Starkey hearing aid is a quick and simple process. First, locate the battery door—typically found on the underside of the device. Gently open it using your fingernail or the edge of a battery magnet tool. Once open, carefully remove the old battery and dispose of it properly.
Next, take a fresh battery from the pack, remove the protective sticker, and let it sit exposed to air for 1–2 minutes. This “activation” time ensures optimal power. Place the battery in the compartment with the flat side (the positive side) facing up. Close the battery door firmly. If it doesn’t shut easily, double-check that the battery is properly seated.
Changing your battery regularly helps maintain sound quality and performance. If you notice reduced volume, distortion, or delayed startup, it’s often a sign that the battery is low.
What size battery does a Starkey hearing aid use?
Starkey hearing aids use a range of battery sizes depending on the model. The four most common battery types are:
-
Size 10 (yellow tab): used in smaller CIC or IIC models
-
Size 312 (brown tab): often used in RIC and ITC styles
-
Size 13 (orange tab): for larger behind-the-ear models
-
Size 675 (blue tab): for high-power hearing aids with stronger amplification
To find out what size your hearing aid uses, check your user manual or look at the existing battery. You can also contact us if you’re unsure—we’re happy to help you choose the right size for your specific hearing aid model.
How to remove or replace the battery door
If your battery door is damaged or worn out, it can usually be replaced without needing a full device repair. Most Starkey battery doors are designed to be removable with a gentle snap mechanism. To remove it, open the door fully and apply light outward pressure to detach it from the hinge pins.
Always handle this step with care. If you’re unsure or worried about damaging your device, we recommend visiting a hearing care specialist or contacting us directly for support.
Replacement battery doors are often model-specific, so make sure to get the correct version for your hearing aid.
